Physical SciencePrerequisites: None. Consists of Laboratory Procedures, Measurement, Kinetic Theory, Chemistry, Forces, Machines and Power, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism. BiologyPrerequisites: None Develop viewpoints of the living world around us along with understanding of scientific method, cellular respiration, cellular reproduction, evolution, genetics, and ecology. Study of five Kingdoms: Monerans, Protists, Fungi, Plant and animal and their importance in nature. ChemistryPrerequisites: Algebra 1. Study of matter, elements and their compositions along with changes they may undergo. We will study atomic structure, bonding, phases of matter, acids, bases and the different types of reaction. Lab work will include importance of scientific method, safety, studies of solids, liquids and gases with a special emphasis on qualitative analysis the second semester. Students who desire a third science and normally make the "A" or "B" Honor Roll should enroll in chemistry. Applied ChemistryPrerequisites: None. This is the study of matter, atoms, materials, metals, energy, industry and petroleum. The course provides an excellent opportunity for students to meet national science standards in both the physical and content areas. It provides a hands on approach with lab work, CD roms and other technology. The course meets the requirement of a third science credit for college bound students. PhysicsPrerequisites: Ninth Grade Physical Science or Equivalent, Algebra II or Concurrent Registration. This physical science course deals with the non-living aspects of nature-matter, energy, and transformation of energy. This is a problem solving class with lab experiences to support and illustrate concepts studied. Advanced BiologyPrerequisites: Biology. This course will provide detailed study of biology. It is a continuation of the topics studied in Biology but the lab work is more advanced, involves a greater precision, research and teamwork. It will go into depth in the areas of the origin of life, evolution, invertebrate, and vertebrate animals (zoology), with an emphasis on mammals. This class is a college preparatory course designed for students interested in pursuing a biological or science related career.
Anatomy and PhysiologyPrerequisites: Biology, Chemistry or Applied Chemistry (past or concurrent). Throughout the year this course will cover areas of human Anatomy (structure) and Physiology (function) with a strong emphasis on the Medical Sciences. This class is a college preparatory course for students interested in Science or Medical Careers. |
