Health CareersPrerequisites: None. Health Careers is a course designed for all High School students where "learning is doing--and doing is fun!" The first semester includes a "core" which includes basic information that is helpful to every day living as well as career knowledge. CPR and first aide certification will be obtained. the second semester provides the students with opportunities to expand skills and knowledge in specific areas Or continue career exploration Or take the approved 77 hour course for long-term care nursing assistant. Instruction will be individualized. Opportunity for college credits(4 dual credits from LRSC) is available in nurse assistant training. Also an option is dual credit or articulation--(3 credits from LRSC)--in Medical Terminology. Class activities are varied--field trips, guest speakers, tours, movies and films as well as "hands-on" practical experience. Health Careers Co-OpPrerequisites: Must be 16 years old This course offers students the opportunity to earn high school credits and regular wages while working in a health related field. Students have specific goals to work towards each week. Grading will be Satisfactory - Unsatisfactory (S-U). Two working hours = 1 school hour so 360 working hours are needed for 1 credit. Health Careers Co-op --"LEARN as you EARN" Health Careers IIPrerequisites: Health Careers. A self-paced course for the student who is seriously interested in a medical career. The course has in-depth clinical rotations and units of instruction. Further areas of study include stress reduction and wellness, alternative medicine, Red Cross recertification, diseases and procedures, and other topics of interest.
