Beginning AccountingAvailable to Juniors and Seniors; Credit: 1; Be ready to compete in a global society and make yourself employable for an entry level position in the field of Accounting while learning the language of the Business World. The emphasis of this course is on the basic concepts and procedures needed to take advantage of the opportunities presented in the business world. It includes the accounting procedures for service and merchandising businesses which are owned and operated as sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. Ten key calculator operation and business simulations are used to integrate accounting principles being studied.
Advanced AccountingAvailable to Seniors; Credit: 1; This course is designed to help the student acquire a more thorough, in-depth knowledge of accounting procedures and techniques utilized in solving business problems and making financial decisions. Students will develop skills in analyzing and interpreting information common to partnerships and corporate forms of organization, preparing formal statements and supporting schedules, and using inventory and budgetary control systems. Computer applications are integrated in each appropriate instructional unit. With the background of the accounting cycle, students will analyze and interpret financial information using computers and accounting software. Emphasis will be placed on decision-making.
Business LawAvailable to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors; Credit: 1/2; Students will gain an understanding of the law and the courts in their lives. Content includes an understanding of contract law, their rights and responsibilities as citizens, utilization of financial transactions, employment and agency relationships, and the understanding of the regulations governing different types of business organizations; an understanding of the court system at the local, state, and national levels. Cisco 1 Networking Basics Available to Juniors and Seniors; Credit: 1; Prerequisites: Business Computer Applications II and basic understanding of computer use (May be taken for dual credit through Lake Region State College) CCNA 1 Networking Basics is the first of the four courses leaking to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. CCNA 1 introduces Cisco Networking Academy Program students to the networking field. The course focuses on network terminology and protocols, local-area networks (LANs), wide-area networks (WANs), the Open System Interconnection reference (OSI) model, cabling, cabling tools, routers, router programming, Ethernet, Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, and network standards. Students signing up for CISCO will need to sign a contract of commitment, which will not allow those classes to be dropped next fall.
Personal FinancePrerequisites: Business Computer Applications II. Includes a study of the basic principles of world economic systems, the American money system, business organization, consumer credit, health, home, life and auto insurance and typical consumer frauds affecting young people. A unit on personal income tax and investments will be included. Presentations using PowerPoint and research using the Internet will also be covered. Spreadsheets and Word Processing Available to Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors; 1/2 credit; Prerequisites: none Students will use the operating system of a microcomputer to analyze business terms and solve problems using spreadsheet software. This course will develop skills in designing worksheets, writing formulas, charting and analyzing data. Students will develop improved productivity with more efficient timesaving ways of producing documents using electronic word composition, formatting, proofreading, and editing skills.
Telecommunications and Electronic Presentations Available to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors; Credit: 1/2; Prerequisites: Spreadsheets/Word Processing
Welcome to the world of TELECOMMUNICATIONS. This course provides practice and
understanding of using personal and appropriate software to access and utilize
the Internet as well as other electronic telecommunication equipment in a
business environment. Exposure to digital cameras, scanners, and other hardware
devices will be covered. Students will learn how to setup computers to operate
and utilize web sites, home pages, and other procedures used to conduct business
activities electronically. Units on Windows XP, Internet Explorer, HTML,
FrontPage and Dreamweaver for Web pages are covered. Web DesignPrerequisites: Business Spreadsheets/Word Processing Introduces students to a variety of ways to create and maintain web pages. The students will focus on the overall production processes with particular emphasis on design elements involving layout, navigation, and interactivity. The basics of web design programming languages and web design software can be taught. Careers in web design are explored and students are provided with opportunities to increase their communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. |
